On the eve of Pride month, vandals have yet again defaced Pride flags at Delta’s Ladner United Church.
It’s the fourth time someone has targeted Pride flags at the church at 48th Avenue and Garry Street.
“The first reaction is anger and shock, and then that subsides. We’re not going to stop, that’s all I can say,” John Clement, chair of the church’s leadership council, told Global News.
Clement said the office manager arrived at the church around 9 a.m. to find black paint splattered over two windows behind which the flags were hanging.
Black paint can be seen splashed over a Pride flag behind glass at the Ladner United Church on Wednesday.
“This is the first time they have damaged the building. This is more of an attack on the whole building,” he said, adding he was “absolutely” certain the flags were the targets.
After previous attacks, the flags were moved indoors, but Celment said the church had been preparing to move them outside on June 1 to mark Pride month.
“Somebody struck early,” he said.
“The three previous times they were outside, and people either spray-painted big black blobs on two of them. The third one somebody … slashed it.”
That most recent attack, in July 2022, was caught on camera. A man appearing to be between the ages of 50 and 60 years old with a bandana covering his face can be seen using a sharp-edged pole to slash at the flag hanging in the church entryway.

The two prior attacks came just 12 days apart in June 2019.
Global News has reached out to Delta police for an update on the investigation into this and the three prior incidents.
Clement said staff spent the day cleaning up the black paint, and that the church plans to proudly fly the flags despite the vandal’s attempts to target them.
He said the church welcomes differences of opinion, but not violence.
“It is frustrating, but in a way, after four times you get resigned. We’re proclaiming the gospel of love the way we see it,” he said.
“We have no problem with anybody not agreeing. We prefer they picketed, or wrote letters to the editor, or made it clear — come and talk with us.”
Their membership continues to decline 7 Bible verses specifically condemn queer sex.

While demonstrators defending Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity education (SOGI 123) outnumbered those against in Vancouver Wednesday, the same could not be said in Surrey, leading to at least one counter-protestor getting hit with a rock.
Around 600 people gathered outside the building of the Surrey Teachers’ Association on King George Boulevard protesting SOGI 123, outnumbering those in support of the educational resources.
(Greg: Great way to go I was at the Vancouver rally had no idea about the rally at the Surrey Teachers’ Association good show.)
Lizanne Foster, the vice president of the Surrey Teachers Association, tells CityNews staff at the building helped tend to a protestor supporting transgender rights who she says had been hit in the head with a rock.
“She was feeling dizzy and weak so we’re just trying to take care of her,” she told CityNews.
She says police on the scene were notified, but no action was taken.
In an email to CityNews, the Surrey RCMP says it got reports of an assault in the area of the protest, saying an investigation is in the “early stages.” Police did not confirm whether the assault was from an item being thrown at someone.
Foster says demonstrators began gathering around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, equipped with hateful signs directed at the 2SLGBTQIA+ and transgender communities.
“It was quite overwhelming. The vitriol and the hate and the absolute misinformation and lies. A lot of people in the crowd had the kinds of flags that we had in the trucker’s protest,” she said in reference to nationwide “Freedom Convoy” protests in 2022.
“We think that this issue has just galvanized the same group of people who were involved in those protests.” (Greg: I never supported convoy never knew anyone who did totally against Sogi 123.)
She says for at least one school in the Surrey district, about 50 per cent of kids did not show up on Wednesday.
“People are bringing their little kids to yell hate at us right here outside our building. They had loudspeakers, they were totally well prepared to spew hate the whole day,” she said.
Foster says she stood outside chanting “transphobes have got to go” and similar messages for a time on Wednesday. However, she says more needs to be done to curb what she calls the misinformation around the issue.
Misinformation about SOGI 123 needs to be addressed, Foster says
Foster says many of the protestors against SOGI 123 are misinformed about what the educational resources entail, saying the full scope of it is only available to teachers, not the public. (Greg: Public pays your wages $60k a year full pension all benefits and you won't tell the peasants paying the taxes what you are teaching put it on a website what are you trying to hide?)
“That information has to be disseminated. You have to actually show people what is happening because in the absence of actual fact, people are open to these lies that are being told to them,” she said.
She adds the misinformation proliferates beyond a misunderstanding of the educational resource.
“There’s a significant amount of ignorance about what sex and sexuality actually is. People use ‘sexualizing’ they use ‘sex’ and all these things — flowers are actually sexual beings. They’re male and female,” she explained.
(Greg: Sponges you lying evil ppl don't have sex. Flowers don't do drag. Flowers having sex see The Wall movie animation from 1979. Same album with We Don't Need No Education)
“If you don’t want any kind of sexual curriculum at all, that means kids don’t get to learn about flowers, about plants, about a whole bunch of different things.” (Greg: The sex ed I had in Grade 7 1978 was fine it was also anti drugs. Biology teaches about plants you lying union hack leftist.)
The B.C. government has published a “mythbuster” fact page on SOGI 123 in an effort to address some of the misinterpretations of the resource.
Protests against sexual orientation and gender identity education were planned nationwide Wednesday, with equal numbers of counter-protests also planned.

The NHL encouraged players to “express themselves off the ice” according to the AP.
Several players—including Edmonton Oilers player Connor McDavid and New Jersey Devils player Jack Hughes—have used and vocally supported the Pride-themed tape on their sticks during games.
The decision prompted swift criticism from Pride Tape, an NHL partner and LGBTQ advocacy organization that sells Pride-themed sports merchandise, stating it is “extremely disappointed” in the NHL’s decision and urged the league and players to stand against homophobia. (Greg: The closet is the best you freeks can hope for.)
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman previously announced in June players would no longer be able to wear commemorative jerseys for specialty nights on the ice after several players refused to wear them, stating the league aims to “keep the focus on the game” and calling the media attention surrounding Pride jerseys a “distraction.” (Greg: No kidding.)
You Can Play, an organization that advocates against homophobia in sports, stated the NHL seems to be “stepping back from its longstanding commitment to inclusion” and accused the league of making decisions to “eradicate” LGBTQ visibility in hockey. Several players criticized the decision, including Calgary Flames player Rasmus Andersson, who said the decision “sucks” and called the cause “something that’s close to my heart and something I would love to support.”
(Greg: Okay Assmus.) Edmonton Oilers player Zach Hyman called the decision “disappointing,” adding the NHL’s guidelines impact more than just the Pride tape and Pride Night jerseys, but the other causes the NHL supports. Pride Tape co-founder Kristopher Wells said the NHL’s guidance seems to contradict its own rules, which state a player can use tape of any color on their sticks. Canadian sportscaster and The Athletic columnist Pierre LeBrun called the NHL’s decision “ridiculous” and “so wrong.”
Key Background
The NHL’s rule changes regarding Pride jerseys and tape came months after numerous players declined to wear the rainbow-colored jerseys while their teams celebrated Pride Nights.
(Greg: You took the right stand.) Several of the players who declined to wear these jerseys cited religious beliefs, while some who are Russian-born cited Russian laws against homosexuality for opting out. Ivan Provorov, then a Philadelphia Flyers player, was the first to decline to wear the Pride jersey in January, citing his Russian Orthodox religion, but stated he respected everybody’s choices. Marc and Eric Staal of the Florida Panthers and San Jose Sharks goalie James Reimer declined to wear the jersey in March, both citing religious beliefs. Other Russian players, Ilya Lyubushkin of the Buffalo Sabres, Denis Gurianov of the Montreal Canadiens and Andrei Kuzmenko of the Vancouver Canucks, also opted out of wearing the jerseys. The Chicago Blackhawks barred its players from wearing Pride jerseys in March, citing Russian laws that could threaten players and their families, despite disappointment from coach Luke Richardson and players.

Other sports leagues have come under scrutiny from right-wing critics for supporting Pride, especially during Pride Month when many businesses faced criticism and boycotts for going “woke.” NASCAR and Major League Baseball sparked some online anger for making social media posts in support of the LGBTQ community. The Los Angeles Dodgers also angered Catholics by inviting the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence—a performance group that dresses in drag as nuns and raises money for LGBTQ causes—to the team’s Pride Night in June, leading the team to uninvite the Sisters, though they were later re-invited after outrage from LGBTQ advocates. Despite the controversies, all but one MLB team reportedly held a Pride Night this year. The NFL, which has previously sparked some anger for supporting the LGBTQ community, sold merchandise for Pride this year, sponsored Los Angeles Pride and maintains a partnership with Bud Light, the embattled beer brand facing boycotts for its “woke” marketing stint with trans TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney. (Greg: Yes the NFL is rainbow degeneracy league now. Boycott Nike and Bud Light and all Inbev and Anheuser-Busch products. )

Boycott Nike and Bud Light and all Inbev and Anheuser-Busch products. )
